The Migrant Resource Center – MRC, located at the Employment Service Center in Nghe An was officially opened
On 19 April 2018, the Migrant Resource Center – MRC, located at the Employment Service Center in Nghe An was officially opened, as a partnership between IOM Vietnam and Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and drawing on the previous achievements from the cooperation between IOM and the Women’s Union of Nghe An. From now on, the potential and returned migrants in Nghe An will have a new reliable address to seek for relevant information, materials and resources about the destination countries, procedures in applying for working overseas, requirements of the oversea labour markets, tips for safe migration and prevention of becoming victims of human trafficking and forced labour. The opening ceremony was, with great honor, observed by the Vice Chairman of Nghe An People’s Committee who attended the ribbon-cutting moments and in his remarks to the press, well embraced this excellent opportunity for Nghe An to promote safe labour migration, in the context that Nghe An is the top labour sending province of the country with 13.810 labour coming overseas to work in 2017, sending back around 500 million USD of remittances.
Two days prior to the opening, a two-day training course on “Counselling skill and providing friendly services to migrants” was organized for 30 participants from ESC and labour officers at different levels to improve their knowledge and skills in providing counselling sessions to job seekers at the MRC and at their local offices.
The establishment and activities of this new MRC fall under the framework of the project “ASEAN-MPACT: Migrant Protection, Assistance, Capacity and Tolerance” undertaken by IOM and funded by the Population, Refugees, and Migration Bureau of the U.S. Department of State (PRM).
