12 Vietnamese fishermen in distress in Micronesia ( an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, northeast of Papua New Guinea) to return home
Hanoi, 28th Feb 2016
Right in the last days of February, along with the Consular Department - Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Organization for Migration IOM has actively supported and arranged travel logistics for 12 Vietnamese fishermen in distress in Micronesia ( an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, northeast of Papua New Guinea) to return home.
In the early morning of February 28, these 12 fishermen landed in HCM City safely on the flight UA 179 of United Airlines from Pohnpei with 2 stopovers in Guam and Hong Kong.
In 2015, IOM has also actively supported 111 Vietnamese fishermen from Micronesia and one from Papua New Guinea regarding finance and travel logistics to return home safely.
There are still a number of similar cases in Micronesia, Papua New Guinea and the IOM is continuing to cooperate with the Consular Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help those fishermen come home soon.
