Welcome to IOM Viet Nam

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Viet Nam is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. As an intergovernmental body, IOM Viet Nam acts with its partners including member states, civil society, and the international community to:

  • Assist in meeting the operational challenges of migration
  • Advance understanding of migration issues
  • Encourage social and economic development through migration
  • Uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants

Viet Nam’s rapid economic development is fuelling large migration flows from rural areas to where employment opportunities are more available. Millions of migrants are working in Viet Nam’s largest cities. These internal migrants often have difficulty accessing accommodation, education for their children, and health care. With regard to international migration, millions of Vietnamese live permanently overseas, and hundreds of thousands reside abroad as temporary workers.
