The post-campaign evaluation for the second phase of the Communication Campaign to Prevent Maritime Irregular Migration to Australia in five identified hotspot provinces

As the second phase of the Communication Campaign to Prevent Maritime Irregular Migration to Australia comes to an end, in recent weeks, the post-campaign evaluation have been conducted for a total of 18 target communes in all five identified hotspot provinces (including 6 communes in Nghe An, 5 communes in Ha Tinh, 3 communes in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, 2 communes in Binh Thuan and 2 communes in Quang Binh).

36 focus group discussions with district/commune leaders and local residents have been organized for all communes, 270 KAP questionnaires were also used to measure the spread and effectiveness of the campaign. The response results so far have been extremely positive, with the majority of respondents showed very good understanding of the campaign messages and purposes. Respondents reported that their local communes have seen no one attempted to travel to Australia by boat ever since the campaign embarked.

Since 2014, the Communication Campaign to Prevent Maritime Irregular Migration to Australia has been implemented by IOM Viet Nam with the aim to inform all groups of audience, especially the potential irregular migrants, of information on Australian Government's immigration policies, the dangers and risks of irregular migration by boat. This project is funded by the Department of Border Protection, Australian Government as part of its Operation Sovereign Borders.
