During 10th and 12th June 2020, in collaboration with Binh Thuan Border Guard, four community meetings were conducted on safe migration and deterring irregular migration for local residents by trained peer-educators in Phu Quy district and La Gi town, Binh Thuan province respectively. These events have attracted the participation of 130 local people who came from four target communes (Tam Thanh, Phuoc Loc, Phuoc Hoi and Tan Phuoc). The four events focused on benefits and challenges of migration, risks and consequences of irregular migration. In addition, information and messages of the Australia’s Operation Sovereign Border (OSB) policies were shared with the audience. The peer-educators also emphasized the main message of Zero Chance for irregular migrants, denying rumours of staying in Australia if travelling there illegally. During the events, a testimonial video on consequences of illegal migration to Australian by boat were presented as well as a number of IEC materials such as pamphlet on OSB policies and handbooks of legal migration channels. Local residents showed their strong engagement through their active participation during the discussions.
